What is Human rabies immune globulin (HRIG) ?

Human rabies immune globulin (HRIG) is the IgG fraction of plasma from human donors who have received multiple doses of rabies vaccine and have high levels of anti-rabies antibody. HRIG is administered once to previously unvaccinated persons exposed to a rabid animal to provide rabies virus neutralizing antibody coverage until the patient responds to vaccination by actively producing virus-neutralizing antibodies. HRIG is administered once on day 0 at the time postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) is initiated, in conjunction with human rabies vaccine. If HRIG was not administered when vaccination was begun on day 0, it can be administered up to and including day 7 of the PEP series.

What is human rabies vaccine?

Human rabies vaccine can protect the infected persons by triggering your immune system to produce antibodies. These special proteins can recognize foreign invaders, like viruses, and destroy them.When you are bitten by a rabid animal, then rabies virus enters the wound from the infected saliva, rabies virus travels through the nerves to the spinal cord and brain, which can last approximately 3 to 12 weeks. When the virus reached the brain, the virus multiplies rapidly and passed to the salivary glands. Signs and symptoms begin to present. The death usually happens within 7 days of becoming sick. However, Rabies is a preventable viral disease by human rabies vaccine. The most important matter is to get the human rabies vaccine injected in time.
